Computer Training

   Key

Earnings: Average $40 per student. A full-time trainer can expect to bring in anywhere from $25,000 to $80,000 a year, with those teaching a full roster of corporate clients bringing in even more.

New version launch

Every year, sometimes more often, software companies come out with a new version of their software. They need to have people trained in the new software, so that they show customers and prospects all the new features.  Contact the software companies and let them know you are a professional software training company, and they'll send you advance versions of the software so you can learn it, usually for free. They may bring you in to do in-house learning so you can show others.

New product launch

Every time a new product is launched into a competitive marketplace, the manufacturer needs to have trainers available to convince prospects to switch from their current product to the new one.

College adjunct

Most community colleges and universities have a continuing education/adult education section, where non-credit classes are taught. You don't have to have a college degree to teach these classes, and they are always looking for new instructors in the computer area. You will either be paid an hourly rate or get a percentage of the tuition paid by the students.

Private seminar companies

In  many cities around the country, there are private seminar companies that put on classes for adults on a fee basis. They may also provide corporate training. Send your proposal in to them, and negotiate a rate. One of the advantages of  the private companies is that you can almost always sell products at the conclusion of the class.

In-house training

Imagine a real estate office, with 50 agents. Talk to the broker in charge, and present a proposal to train the agents on how to promote their listings more effectively online. Make it a mandatory training session Saturday morning, at $50 a head. $50 per person x 40 people (not everyone will be there) is $2000, not bad for an hour of training!

The major reason this works is that most small business owners KNOW they are supposed to be providing training for their employees - but few do. They know the benefits of training, but have no time, no skills and no confidence in doing so.
