$ Earnings: $20-$200 per month retainer, $50 search, $1 clipped item
Time is money, and searching for things on the Internet can be frustrating. It is also frustrating for many that there is so much information available, it is too difficult to sift through it all. This is the niche for Information Mining, or online research.
If you know how to do advanced searching, you can find things online in a fraction of the time it would take somebody else. There is also much of the Internet that is not even in the search engines, but is accessible to those who know where to look.
Some clients will hire you to save them time in searching, others will hire you to keep track of keywords for their advertising and promotion. Others will contract with you to serve as an online clipping service, letting them know what people are saying about them online.
Example: I offer research services. My prices range from $50-75 per hour depending on the complexity of the research. I have specialized in new media since 1994 but have over 20 years experience in research and I live on State college campus, so if it's not on the Internet, I can still find it usually. My clients include government, reporters, corporations, nonprofit organizations and individuals. Currently I am a producer for Washington Interactive Technologies, a division of the State Department of Information Services. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.
